Trump Taps Another Conservative Leader For Key Role In His Administration
On Friday President-elect Donald Trump announced Brian Burch, the president of CatholicVote, as his choice for U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See. The announcement, made through Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social, highlighted Burch’s devout Catholic faith, leadership in one of the country’s largest Catholic advocacy groups, and strong family values.
“Brian is a devout Catholic, a father of nine, and President of CatholicVote,” Trump wrote. “He has received numerous awards and demonstrated exceptional leadership, helping build one of the largest Catholic advocacy groups in the country.”
Trump also credited Burch with playing a pivotal role in mobilizing Catholic voters during the 2024 election, saying, “He represented me well during the last election, having garnered more Catholic votes than any presidential candidate in history!”
Burch’s leadership of CatholicVote has positioned him as a leading voice in Catholic advocacy, known for championing pro-life policies, religious liberty, and traditional family values. Under his guidance, CatholicVote has grown into a significant political and cultural force, influencing policies and engaging millions of voters.
Progressive groups are likely to scrutinize his positions on issues like abortion and LGBTQ+ rights, areas where the Holy See and the U.S. have had diplomatic disagreements in the past. Burch is set to undergo the Senate confirmation process, where he is expected to face minimal opposition from Republicans, given that his views are widely accepted within the party.
Shortly after the announcement, Burch took to social media to express his gratitude and reflect on the importance of the role: “I am deeply honored and humbled to have been nominated by President Trump to serve as the United States Ambassador to the Holy See,” Burch wrote. “Words cannot express my gratitude to all those that have helped me achieve this nomination, most especially my wife Sara, my 9 beautiful children, my CV team, and all those who supported me in this journey.”
Burch also paid tribute to his late father, saying, “I am especially grateful to my father, who passed to eternal life this past June, who taught me to love the Church and the blessings and responsibilities of being a citizen of the U.S.”

He continued, emphasizing the importance of the role, saying, “The Catholic Church is the largest and most important religious institution in the world, and its relationship to the United States is of vital importance. I am committed to working with leaders inside the Vatican and the new Administration to promote the dignity of all people and the common good. To God be the glory.”
