JUST IN: Kari Lake Secures Trump Administration Role
President-elect Donald Trump has tapped staunch Arizona ally Kari Lake as the next director of the Voice of America, a state-funded U.S. government broadcaster.
“I am pleased to announce that Kari Lake will serve as our next Director of the Voice of America. She will be appointed by, and work closely with, our next head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, who I will announce soon, to ensure that the American values of Freedom and Liberty are broadcast around the World FAIRLY and ACCURATELY, unlike the lies spread by the Fake News Media,” Trump announced in a Truth Social post on Wednesday evening.
Before entering the political arena in 2022, Lake was a news anchor for the Phoenix area television station KSAZ-TV, a position she held from 1999 through 2021.

Lake, who unsuccessfully ran for Governor of Arizona in 2022 and the U.S. Senate in 2024, happily accepted the president-elect’s appointment in a social media post of her own. “I am honored that President Trump has asked me to lead the Voice of America,” she wrote. “VOA is a vital international media outlet dedicated to advancing the interests of the United States by engaging directly with people across the globe and promoting democracy and truth,” the post continued, adding that VOA broadcasts in 48 languages.
“Thank you for putting your trust in me, President Trump. I look forward to leading the Voice of America, and I can’t wait to get started.”
VOA was founded during World War II, and its congressional charter requires it to present independent news and information to international audiences.
The supposedly neutral broadcaster generated controversy in 2020 by publishing numerous stories that painted the Trump Administration in an unfavorable, leading to criticism from Trump, who accused VOA staffers of saying “nasty things about out country.”
With Lake’s appointment, the president-elect will be hoping to steer the organization back to its intended mission.
