'Sporty' Kate Middleton Is Back to Working Out Again After Chemo (EXCL)
Princess Kate is back in the gym and resuming all her favorite activities as she continues to recover from her bout with cancer – and hubby Prince William is right by her side as he takes the opportunity to whip himself into tip-top shape as well, a source exclusively tells Life & Style.
“Kate is so relieved to finally have enough energy to start being more active again, she’s always been very sporty so having to take such a long break from working out was so tough for her,” the insider says.
Since announcing the end of the chemotherapy treatment in September, Kate, 42, has been attending royal events and making appearances along with the rest of the family. She revealed she had been diagnosed with an unspecified cancer near the end of March, which required an extended period of treatment and recovery.
During that time, the source says, “She lost a lot of muscle tone, which really bothered her.” However, as the princess had been active her whole life, playing field hockey and tennis, the real loss was that, “more than anything, she missed the mental health benefits of working up a good sweat.”
“She adores running and is back at it. She’s weightlifting again, doing some spin classes and yoga. It’s not at the level she was before, she’s being smart and starting slow, but it’s still more than a lot of people do.”
Luckily for the princess, her heir-apparent husband is also keen on fitness, having been a swimmer and water polo player while at university. “William is joining her for some of her workouts,” the palace insider confirms. “It’s something they really enjoy doing together, they treat their workout sessions like a date. They’re both quite competitive and push each other in the gym.”
More than just working on herself, Kate has also dedicated her time to helping others overcome struggles similar to her chemo course. A second source previously told Life & Style the Princess of Wales has “publicly vowed to help others through their journeys,” and “is following through.”
“Her work has only just begun. She wants to do more. Kate really is determined to turn her difficult experience into something that benefits others,” the source said.
Another silver lining of Kate’s health crisis was the strengthening of her relationship with her father-in-law, King Charles, who is also battling cancer. As Life & Style had reported, their simultaneous treatments had brought them closer together in an unexpected way.
With the terrible episode behind them, the couple are focused on the future – ensuring they stick around to raise their three children and eventually become kind and queen.
“They’ve set out goals for next year to get into the best shape of their lives together, it’s something they’re looking forward to and have a whole plan with a trainer set up and that includes their diets, lots of protein so they can build muscle.”
“They’re both so thrilled and grateful that Kate is well enough to take this on and they’re loving it!”
