Biden to Give $4 Billion to World Bank Fund – JP
President Joe Biden has voted to contribute $4 billion to the World Bank’s International Development Association (IDA) for the world’s poorest countries.
The pledge is considered “historic,” JP reported.
In 2021, the United States committed $3.5 billion to the IDA fund.
“Now we need to make sure the World Bank can continue its work in the most vulnerable countries,“ Biden reportedly said. ”Right now, I’m proud to announce the United States is pledging $4 billion over the next three years for the World Bank International Development Association.”
He added that the IDA is the “first responder in the world’s poorest countries. I encourage everyone around this table to increase their pledges in December.”
The announcement followed Biden telling reporters on Sunday that he would provide an additional $50 million to the Amazon Fund.
The millions of dollars, as well as other initiatives, are to bolster the administration’s “green” agenda.
“It’s no secret that I’m leaving office in January,” Biden said. “I will have my su- — I will leave my successor and my country in a strong foundation to build on if they choose to do so.”
