Golden Bachelorette's Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple Moving to NYC
Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple have a lot to look forward to now that they’ve gone public with their engagement. Following the Golden Bachelorette finale on Wednesday, November 13, the happy couple gave an update about what’s next.
After they confirmed that they’re still together during the After the Final Rose special, the couple revealed to Journalposts that they are moving to New York City together.
“The first year, obviously, we have to kind of figure out life. Chock has a business in Kansas. I have kids and grandkids and Maryland. I’m not leaving Maryland, but he does have obligations in Kansas,” Joan told the outlet about their plans to relocate. “We know that we’re gonna spend time in Maryland and in Kansas, but then we have this really fun plan because both of us have always dreamed — and we’re finally at this weird stage in life for making this dream come true — that we live in a big city, and, specifically, we’ve always wanted to live in New York. So Chock surprised me and said, ‘I want us to go find a place.’”
Joan added that they “both love the energy in the city and love that there’s always something to do.”
“We just wanna go out and walk and experience life — go to fun restaurants and [experience the] culture. We both have friends there,” she continued. “We’re gonna be there during the holidays, which is the best time ever in New York City. I think it’s just a really different life than either one of us have ever lived.”
She added that two of Chock’s kids, Taylor, 25, and Tyler, 23, live on the East Coast, which made the decision to move “a little bit easier.”
The couple’s engagement came after Joan eliminated Guy Gansert at the final rose ceremony. After introducing both men to her kids and getting their input, she realized that she was in love with Chock and wanted to pursue a future with him. Meanwhile, Chock had already admitted during fantasy suites week that he pictured spending the rest of his life with Joan.
Joan previously admitted that Chock made an impression on her right away because he already knew a lot about her, including the names of her kids and the fact that she has a homemade soup recipe. “I realized he went out and figured out who I was and what was important to me,” the Maryland native said on “The Viall Files” in October. “Some people might call that creepy. Some people, like me, thought, ‘Wow, he really is interested.’”
Although Chock didn’t get the first impression rose, Joan asked him on the first one-on-one date of the season in episode 2. After a fun-filled day at Disneyland, where the two continued to get to know one another, he received a rose.
Joan was there for Chock after he suffered a devastating loss in episode 4. One day after he received a group date rose, he found out that his mother had passed away. Joan was there to comfort him and urged him to do whatever he needed during the difficult time. Chock went home to be with his family, but returned by the rose ceremony to continue seeing where things would lead.
Getting through a tough, real-life moment on the show seemed to bring Chock and Joan even closer. They were practically inseparable on the next group date, to the point where the other men took notice. The insurance executive made it to hometown dates and introduced Joan to his family, including his kids, father and late fiancée’s father. Joan felt welcomed with open arms after participating in a memorial service for Chock’s mother.
Joan made a hard-and-fast rule that she would not be intimate in the fantasy suites, but she and Chock still spent the night behind closed doors together and talked about what their future could look like. Since Pascal Ibgui self-eliminated during his final 3 date, Chock and Guy, 66, became the final two.
Despite being heartbroken by Pascal’s exit, Joan – who was married for nearly 33 years before husband John Vassos died in 2021 – was able to open herself up to love with Chock. The Kansas native proposed to Joan with a gorgeous engagement ring at the final rose ceremony. Now, they’ll start the rest of their lives together!
