Taylor Swift Gushes About Giant Friendship Bracelet in NOLA

New Orleans welcomed Taylor Swift with a giant friendship bracelet outside Caesars Superdome, and the pop star couldn’t help but gush about what the friendship bracelet trend has meant to her over the last several months as she traveled worldwide for the Eras tour.

“You’ve created traditions. You’ve created this mass movement of joy every time we play a show. And it makes me so proud, it really does,” Taylor, 34, said in a video shared by a fan via X on Friday, October 25. “I just showed up one day and you guys were trading friendship bracelets and I was like, ‘That’s cool,’ and now there is a giant friendship bracelet on the outside of this stadium.”

The Grammy winner continued, “Which is so nice of them to do for us — but it’s even nicer of you guys to create things that went so far beyond what I ever expected for this tour.”

Other cities have hopped on the friendship bracelet, too. Taylor has upcoming shows in Indianapolis and on Wednesday, October 23, the Indianapolis Children’s Museum shared a video of their staff placing the jewelry on some of their life-sized dinosaurs outside the building.

The friendship bracelet trend started shortly after Taylor kicked off her Eras tour in March 2023. It was inspired by lyrics in her song “You’re On Your Own, Kid” from the Midnights album. The Miss Americana star sings, “So make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it,” and fans took the advice literally.

The trend quickly blew up and fans began making their own bracelets with references to Taylor and lyrics from her songs spelled out with the beads. Swifties trade the jewelry at shows with other fans and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, even got in on the action. In a July 2023 episode of his podcast, “New Heights,” the NFL star, 35, revealed he initially planned to ask the “Fortnight” singer out for a date with a friendship bracelet when he attended her concert at Arrowhead Stadium.

“Well, I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings,” Travis told his brother, Jason Kelce, during the July 26, 2023, episode. “So, I was little butthurt that I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her.”

The Ohio native continued, “If you’re up on Taylor Swift concerts, there are friendship bracelets, and I received a bunch of them being there [sic]. But I wanted to give Taylor Swift one with my number on it. … She doesn’t meet anybody, or at least she didn’t want to meet me, so I took it personal [sic].”

Despite Travis not being able to slip Taylor his phone number via friendship bracelet at her Kansas City show in 2023, the two still managed to meet and eventually fall in love. In January, the Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? host gifted the “Exile” artist a custom $6,000 diamond friendship bracelet that spelled out “TNT” in reference to his and Taylor’s names. He also got one for himself so he and his lady love could match.
