RIYADH: A bus carrying Umrah pilgrims to Mecca crashed at a bridge and caught in fire leaving 20 killed and dozens injured.

The incident occurred as many pilgrims rushed to Mecca to perform Umrah during the holly month of Ramadan.

“According to the initial information received, the number of deaths due to this misfortune has reached 20 and the number of injured is approximately 29,” reported the kingdom’s television channel, Al-Ekhbariya.

According to the report, the victims had different nationalities but did not specify their identities.

According to a report by Okaz’s private newspaper, the accident was due to a braking problem that caused the bus to go over the bridge, then overturn and catch fire.
